our team >

So, who is Team Scope anyway? we’re a motley crew of brilliant (and slightly crazy) designers who have come from all corners of the globe to work together – and we absolutely love it. here’s a little bit about us to get you started, but if you want to know more, just give us a call!

Katie Young / Director >

Katie has spent the last decade making sure her clients make a great first impression; and second; and third. With an advanced diploma in graphic design and advertising, a dozen years’ experience, and her own designer wrapping paper range – Gifted – she really knows how to make an impact.

In 2003, Katie created one of her best pieces of work yet – Scope Design Group. Along with her team of creative and design gurus, she works with leading Australian companies, creating cut-through communication and design solutions. Although she thrives in the challenging environment of achieving perfection for national corporations, she gets a buzz out of making creative solutions a reality for small businesses too.

But don’t get the impression that Katie is one of those reclusive design types – she loves all kinds of challenges, and as a self-confessed ‘rev-head’ loves nothing more than jumping in the navigator’s seat and belting around a rally course. Her experience, quirky sense of humour and willingness to take risks are the perfect combination that make her the driving force behind Team Scope.

mark burrough / senior designer >

If you were to see Mark indulging his other passion on the weekends – surfing – you’d be grateful that he’s a far better designer than he is surfer. But for a boy recently in from the UK, he does okay on a long board.

Mark has more than ten years’ experience in corporate publishing and branding. Armed with an honours degree in design, he worked for several of the best London-based agencies while earning a diploma in interior design in his spare time.

He made the move from London to Sydney in 2006, bringing a swag of prestigious design awards with him – including the coveted IVCA Clarion Award – but thankfully leaving the weather back in Ol’ Blighty. After several months searching for the ideal agency, he found his way to Team Scope where he has since been creating design solutions for grateful Australian clients.

fiona boyan / designer >

Fiona is our newest recruit, joining Team Scope in 2007. Originally from Canberra, she now loves Sydney’s inner city and spends hours exploring the streets and laneways for hidden shops and cafés. She is a fan of spicy food and her (current) favourite place to eat is ‘Spice I Am’, a Thai restaurant in Surry Hills.

Fiona began her studies in fashion illustration after winning a scholarship to the Whitehouse School of Design, and then went on to earn an advanced diploma in graphic design at the Enmore Design Centre. Before joining Team Scope she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, spending 18 months working in printing, which gives her a unique behind-the-scenes understanding of how your job will move from concept to finished product in the printing process.

She cheerfully describes herself as a ‘bit of a nerd’, confessing to a secret love for Astroboy cartoons and the TV series 'Arrested Development'. She recently conquered two of her biggest fears – flying and fish – when she travelled to Hawaii and snorkelled with hundreds of beautiful tropical fish and – much to her surprise – several large sharks! She is now in mourning over her own pet Siamese Fighting Fish, Derek, who is taught her that not all fish are fearsome.

Naomi Solomon / Designer >

Ever since she was a child Naomi has had a passion for colour (especially red!) and creativity, spending hours creating artworks and treating her parents to impromptu exhibitions These days, not much has changed – although the exhibitions are now public, standing-room only affairs, with people queuing to take a look at her latest offerings.

Moving from Bowral to Sydney, Naomi studied a bachelor of design in visual communications (honours) combined with a bachelor of arts in international studies, Italian language and culture at UTS. She took a year off in the middle of her degree to travel to Italy where she lived in the lovely baroque city of Lecce. There she learnt to speak ‘real’ Italian and appreciate pizza, pasta and siestas, and met the love of her life.

Back in Australia, Naomi worked for Fudge Puppy (an animation studio), Books Kinokuniya (although she believes she may have single-handedly sustained the company, as she spent more on books than she earned), and on the Academy Award winning film, Happy Feet while she finished her degree.

In 2005 she joined Team Scope, bringing along her happy-go-lucky personality, innovative and daring creativity, and the best chocolate fudge brownies around. When she is not behind her Mac, Naomi is passionate about cooking, creating and curating art and design exhibitions, and reading.

kristie* paul / inochi >

It’s one thing to have a brilliant range of printed and online marketing and communication materials, but what happens when someone walks through your door? Do they experience your brand in 3D or does the illusion all fall apart? Translating brands into physical environments and creating commercial, retail, hospitality and residential spaces where people love to be is what inochi is all about. Taking its name from the Japanese word for ‘life’, inochi’s philosophy of ‘designlife’ is about helping you to create a relationship with your clients by bringing your brand to life through design.

“Team Scope really sees and understands brands from a clients’ perspective. Working together from concept to completion we create powerful designs that translate brands into interiors, taking them off the page and bringing them to life. In fact, we thought working with Team Scope was such a fun and high-energy experience that we decided to share an office with them!"

scott sugden / spatial intelligence >

Designers and website creators have traditionally battled over the form and function of websites. Spatial are that rare breed of web developers who have exceptional technical ability plus a love of good design and an understanding of brand. They build websites that look cool, are highly functional and easy to use. Isn’t that exactly what you’ve been looking for?

“Team Scope understands online design. They recognise the technical possibilities and limitations, but aren’t afraid to push the boundaries. Together we create sites that are great to look at and highly functional. We’ve built many websites together over the years and in the process refined our project management approach so that it’s all pretty seamless for clients.”

kerrin medenyak / ink communications >

If you want people to hear your message you have to give your brand a voice. The way you look and the words you use must work together to create powerful communications. Ink takes the angst out of putting pen to paper as they work with you to create ‘stop-em-in-their-tracks’ copy for everything from sales proposals and marketing materials, to brochures, websites and annual reports. They’re experts at putting the right words together to create the results you want – every time.

“For many designers, words just get in the way of a good design, but Team Scope is different. They’re all about creating communications that work, so words, images, design and tone are all considered from the outset. The result for clients? Messages that cut through and big personality brands whose voice and visual tell the same story.”

zoe palmer / brand chemistry >

Whether you’re just starting out or planning to rebrand, Brand Chemistry is all about helping you uncover the magic behind your brand. The key is in the strategy and analytical elements that lead to killer creative – and it’s something that they are quite simply brilliant at. Once you’ve created your brand, they’re also there to help with the other side of the branding process – systemising your marketing activities and working on ways to drive new business.

“Team Scope is brilliant at finding the right creative angle to communicate a brand strategy, without being so cool or clever that the meaning is lost. They pay meticulous attention to every detail and have top-notch project management skills. They not only know what they need to do to bring a project to completion, they know what everyone else in the process needs to do too, and they make sure it all happens on time and on budget. When I work with Team Scope I have total confidence that their expertise will translate into superior added value for our clients.”
